The Bridge Over the River Kwai (City)
March 27, 2010
When people come to Thailand, one of the first thing they wish to visit is The Bridge over the River Kwai.
In 1942, Kanchanaburi was under Japanese control. It was here that Allied POWs (Prisoners Of War), when building the infamous Thailand-Burma Railway, constructed an important bridge over the River Kwai. This event was immortalised in the world famous film ” The Bridge over the River Kwai” . It is estimated that half of the prisoners working on the project died from beatings, starvation, disease, maltreatment, jungle fever, accidents and exhaustion.
