Songkran Thai New Year Water Festival in Kanchanaburi

Songkran is a three-day national holiday all over Thailand which takes place every year on 13 + 14 + 15th of April. It consists of a major water festival which marks the start of traditional Thai New Year.
Songkran mainly marks the celebration of the lunar new year during which Buddha images are bathed. Monks and elderly people receive the respect of younger generations who sprinkle water over their hands. Songkran is also a famous peaceful giant streetfighting with water, for fun only, all over the country.
