Kanchanaburi (Thesaban Mueang in Thai language) is a medium size town in the Western part of central Thailand and the capital of Kanchanaburi province. In 2009 it had a population of 67,500. The Bridge Over the River Kwai (City)

In 1942, Kanchanaburi was under Japanese control. It was here that Allied POWs (Prisoners Of War), when building the infamous Thailand-Burma Railway, constructed an important Bridge over the River Kwai.
