The Tiger Temple in Kanchanaburi, officially named in Thai language WAT (Temple) PA LUANGTA BUA, was founded in 1994 by PHRA (Monk) ACHARN  PHOOSIT (CHAN), the Abbot (Head Monk), as a forest monastery and wildlife sanctuary (not at all a zoo !) for wild animals (jungle fowls, eagles, water buffalos, monkeys, deers, peacocks, geese, wild pigs, leopards, Malaysian bears) including tame tiger cubs since 1999, whose mothers were killed by poachers, or who were then born at the temple since it opened.
